Friends of ours are nearing the end of a remodel on their new house. Luckily, I was able to get photographs of the house during the demo. Going into a house during this process is so much fun, there are so many things to discover — the textures, patterns and old details that are revealed are so beautiful, not to mention you are almost always guaranteed to find some pretty interesting wallpaper!

Recently, I found an old scrapbook of my grandmother’s, full of scrap-bookish things like newspaper clippings and photographs. But then there are the really old handwritten documents from the 1800s that are incredibly beautiful, elegant and detailed. There isn’t one signature or title without a flourish. I think about the people who wrote these and I wonder if it took them forever to draft and I think about how we draft documents at lightning speed signed with electronic “signatures.” Don’t get me wrong, I love technology and I love all of my gadgets and different forms of social media. I do, however, think about slowing down a bit and maybe writing a letter to someone instead of sending an email. That’s if I remember how to put pen to paper!
